WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE US TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
My name is Anna Alexoudi and I am the creator of the Responsible Citizen. I have a bachelor’s degree in Theory and History of Art, from Athens School Of Fine Art. I live in Athens. I mostly experiment with digital art, illustrations, photography and writing as well.
HOW DID THE COVID-19 BREAKDOWN AFFECT YOUR WORK AS AN ARTIST?
Thank you Silvia for asking, I am being honored to stand here today. I want to thank my parents, my friends, my sister and my boyfriend. Hello everybody, I love you all!
So, Covid-19 didn’t affect me much, because I was already unemployed, so, I could not blame the virus for it (damn it!). It actually helped me. I had a three month break from finding excuses for not wanting to go out.
But, it affected me, of course, with all these restrictions measures and surveillance systems. It made me see the world we live in, in its true shape and color. And what was revealed to me, me didn’t like it.
I use a lot of symbolism, and this is why I created the Responsible Citizen. Responsibility was the magic word in Greece for the year 2020. Can’t say more, it would be a spoiler for my website!
HAS YOUR WAY OF THINKING/PRODUCING ART CHANGED? IN WHAT WAY?
My way of thinking changed, of course, it became sharper and more critical. I can talk about it for pages, but I will control myself.
It changed also the way I was producing art. Staying at home, gave me the time to experiment with photography, to learn how to use editing programs and I also attended a seminar about performance.
I was always thinking myself as someone who is drawing almost well enough and that’s all. But now, I have the tools to combine so many different aspects and include as well my love for anthropology in my art.
Why Covid-19 is responsible for all that? Because it is an extreme. And extreme situations are giving birth to world-changing ideas, technologies and standards. Not always for the right reasons. My Responsible Citizen is watching these changes in a responsible way.
