SETA – DIALOGUES ON CONTEMPORARY CHINA, Prato, Italy

SETA Festival Second Edition featured the artistic exploration IDEM / ALTER, a contemporary art exhibition with installations and performances by artists Musk Ming, Peng Shuai Paolo and Liang Lisha. Curated by Silvia Vannacci, IDEM / ALTER is based on the analysis of identity processes and the consequent perception of alterity in different migratory contexts (transnational, diasporic, cosmopolitan) with attention to Chinese or Chinese descendants’ artistic production in Europe.

IDEM / ALTER is the need to investigate, show and share the very fabric of unimagined stories. The artists’ research on cultural, sexual and social identity is described through propaganda posters, chessboards and pink balloons, as well as site-specific installations, videos and performances.

The concepts of identity and alterity in the artistic research and practice were the focus of the talk “IDEM / ALTER Musk Ming, Peng Shuai Paolo and Liang Lisha in conversation with Silvia Vannacci, moderated by Roberto Pecorale”. The talk took place at the conference room of the Textile Museum on Friday October 1st 2021. On the same day, in the adjacent Saletta Campolmi, IDEM / ALTER was inaugurated with a guided tour by the curator together with the artists. A performance by Musk Ming then followed.

Saturday, October 2nd, the second day of the Festival, the performances by artists Peng Shuai Paolo and Liang Lisha took place in the courtyard of the Textile Museum and Saletta Campolmi.
