Anneliese Charek is a dancer, choreographer and arts facilitator working to cultivate cross-cultural performance and independent arts initiatives.
Originally from Los Angeles she graduated from California Institute of the Arts before joining the Li Chiao-Ping Dance company and expanding her studies to film and video installation. As a resident of Shanghai, she has created an intercultural hub with SLATE contemporary dance company, which brings the cities local Chinese and foreign dance artists together. Her work often incorporates the personal stories of dancers as the genesis for movement creation. The documentary dance performance ‘Why?’ is an ever- evolving research project highlighting the adopted culture of dance through various nationalities.
